Islamic Montessori, explained
What is an Islamic Montessori nursery?
An Islamic Montessori nursery teaches the Montessori method inside an Islamic daily rhythm. Children learn through hands-on, child-led work, while gratitude, Arabic and the stories of the Prophets are woven into the ordinary day rather than taught as a separate lesson.
Prophetic stories for character
Stories of the Prophets and the Qur'an are woven into everyday play, so lessons in kindness, respect, and responsibility come alive when children share toys and play together in the garden.
Gratitude and love of Allah in daily language
Phrases like Bismillah before eating, Alhamdulillah after, and shukr during circle time make remembrance of Allah a natural part of the child's day.
Celebrating Islamic identity
Large, joyful celebrations of Ramadhan and Eid give children a strong sense of belonging and pride in who they are.
Introducing Arabic
Simple Arabic words and phrases, used naturally in the classroom, familiarise children with the language of the Qur'an from an early age.

Islamic Montessori at Preston Road
What is an Islamic Montessori?
An Islamic Montessori nursery teaches the Montessori method inside an Islamic daily rhythm. Children learn through hands-on, child-led work, while gratitude, Arabic and the stories of the Prophets are woven into the ordinary day rather than taught as a separate lesson.
Is this for a particular sect of Islam?
No. This is a non-sectarian Islamic nursery, teaching universal values and akhlaq (good character). We aim to be inclusive of all Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Is Buckingham Montessori Preston Road open to families who are not Muslim?
Yes. Preston Road is an Islamic nursery and every family is welcome. The Islamic parts of the day are open to all children, and any family who would prefer their child opted out of the Arabic sessions only has to tell us.
How is this different from an ordinary Montessori nursery?
The Montessori method is exactly the same: child-led, hands-on, and following the full EYFS framework. What changes is the rhythm around it. The day opens with Bismillah, gratitude is part of how children speak, and Arabic and the stories of the Prophets sit inside the week.
Will you teach my child how to pray?
No. We don't teach the laws or the practical elements of Islam. We encourage parents to teach these to their children at home.
Will my child learn Arabic and the Qur'an?
Yes, as part of the ordinary day. Simple Arabic words and phrases are used naturally in the classroom, and the stories of the Prophets, the Qur'an and the 99 Names are woven into everyday play. Any family who would prefer their child to sit out the Arabic sessions only has to tell us.
Do you celebrate Ramadhan and Eid?
Yes. We hold large, joyful celebrations of Ramadhan and Eid, which give children a strong sense of belonging and pride in who they are.
Is the food halal?
Yes. All food served at Preston Road is halal.
Visiting and joining
What ages do you take, and where are you?
We take children from birth to five years at 309 Preston Road, Harrow HA3 0QQ, a short walk from Preston Road station and close to Wembley and Kenton.
Is there parking?
Yes. There is a driveway for pick-up and drop-off. Alternatively, there is a car park with free one-hour parking, and side roads where you can pick up and drop off your children.
How do I book a visit?
Book a showaround on this page and pick a time that suits you, or call us on 07305 546777. Visits take 20 minutes with Jalpa, our branch manager, who will show you the rooms and answer your questions on the day.
Who will look after my child?
Our branch manager, Jalpa, has twelve years in early years and is at the nursery every morning. Classes are small, and our staff lead with warmth and compassion, so your child is always seen, never just a number.
Do you accept funded hours?
Yes. You can fund your child's place with 15 or 30 funded hours, or pay privately. What your child is entitled to depends on their age and your circumstances, and Jalpa will go through it with you when you visit.
How much are the fees?
We go through fees, funded hours and availability with you in person when you visit, so you leave knowing exactly where you stand rather than waiting for a follow-up email.
Is Preston Road connected to Buckingham Montessori in Edgware?
Yes. Preston Road is the Islamic branch of Buckingham Montessori. It builds on our Edgware sister site, an Ofsted Good nursery that has delivered the Montessori method since 2014.
